A cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision between her and a bus.

The woman, in her 30s, remains in hospital this morning.

The collision happened last night (February 19) on Wigton Road, close to the junction of Peel Street at Wigton Road, police said.

Cumbria Police were called shortly before 8pm.

Anyone who witnessed who has yet to come forward – or anyone else with information which may assist with the investigation – is asked to contact the police.

At 8.03pm, three fire engines from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

Fire crews used one hydraulic spreader to release the female casualty, who was left in the hands of the Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS).

The fire crews were in attendance for approximately 30 minutes.
