A MOUNTAIN rescue team is warning the public about inauthentic merchandise being offered for sale on its Facebook page.

Keswick Mountain Rescue team has been the target of various profiles claiming to sell Keswick MRT branded merchandise, such as clothing.

However, Keswick MRT does not sell merch of any kind, either directly or through third parties.

Craig Dring, a team member, put out a post warning those who follow the page not to engage with these profiles, which read: “Over the last few months there have been attempts by some to sell what appears to be Keswick MRT merchandise.

“They advertise through the Facebook comments section on our posts weeks or months after the post goes up.

“Keswick MRT does not sell merchandise either directly or through third parties.

“As soon as we become aware we immediately block them from our Facebook page.

“Please do not buy these products.”

Craig added: “What happens is when we put a post up on our Facebook page about a callout, people comment on those posts, and these profiles reply to these people saying they sell Keswick MRT merchandise, t-shirts and hoodies.

"When you look at the clothes they’re just copy-and-paste jobs of the Keswick MRT logo.

“We don’t know if it’s a scam, but it’s suspicious.

“We recommend you don’t buy from these accounts because we can’t vouch for the quality, or that you’ll even get anything.

“It’s not just us, it’s quite a lot of other MRTs.

“Once I put the post up some other groups got in touch saying the same is happening to them, it could be happening to other charitable groups as well.”
