EDEN District Council has received a bid for ten holiday pods on the land associated with Armathwaite Manor.

The proposed change of use of land was submitted to Eden District Council on February 6.

The application has been submitted by SRE Associates, on behalf of Mr McGregor.

Included in the proposal is a new access road and package treatment plans alongside the holiday pods which would be served by mains water and electricity.

The adjacent Grade II listed building, Armathwaite Manor, dates back to 1829.

In terms of the proposed public benefits, the design and access statement reads: "The change of use bought about by the proposal will contribute to the local economy and tourism trade.

"The proposed pods will be sufficiently ‘detached’ from the listed building as to cause no harm to its character and appearance as a result of the proposed work.

"The applicant is already heavily involved in maintaining and repairing the existing footpaths around the privately owned site and the investment into these improvements would be safeguarded by securing a financially viable solution to the application site.

"Local employment opportunities would be available in terms of site management, cleaning, and maintenance as is already the case with the recent change of use on the existing heritage asset," it said.
