TRIBUTES have been paid to a West Cumbrian teacher who 'changed the lives' of students and colleagues throughout her life.

West Lakes Academy in Egremont have paid tribute to Clare McConnell, a 'superb form tutor' who 'supported children through the bad times and good'.

In a statement, West Lakes Academy said: "It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Clare McConnell.

"Clare was a much loved and highly valued member of the West Lakes team.

"She was a fantastic English teacher, helping countless children to achieve well in their GCSEs and A Levels and to develop a love of learning along the way.

"She was also a superb form tutor, supporting children through good times and bad and helping them to make the right choices for their futures.

"Clare was an inspiration to students and colleagues alike. She acted as a mentor to numerous trainee teachers, ensuring they made a successful start to their careers.

"Her knowledge of the subject and her creative ideas for lessons helped the English department to win Best Team in Education at the Pearson national teaching awards in 2015.

"Clare changed the lives of both students and colleagues during her time at WLA.

"She is much loved and will be very much missed.

"Everyone at West Lakes sends their very deepest condolences to Clare’s family and friends. You are in our thoughts."

A funeral service will be held at St Bridget's, Moresby on Monday, March 6 2023 at 1.45 pm.
