CARLISLE'S City of Lights festival has been entertaining residents since it started on Thursday night (February 23).

Continuing on through the weekend until its final showing tonight (Saturday), the event, with the theme of science, has seen the lighting of the city’s key historic landmarks.

Additionally, a sound and light ‘experience’ inside and outside Carlisle Cathedral, and within the grounds of Tullie House and Carlisle Castle, accompany the festivities.

City of Lights is organised by the Discover Carlisle team (Carlisle City Council) and Luxmuralis in association with Cumbria County Council, and is supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Carlisle City Cllr Stephen Higgs, portfolio holder for culture, heritage and leisure, said: “The City of Lights is now underway and is proving to be a great success.

“We have worked hard to make this event bigger and better featuring Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House and Carlisle Castle.

“There are still tickets available for the Saturday evening event by visiting the Carlisle Tourist Information Centre or online at discovercarlisle.co.uk.

“So, don’t miss out on this amazing light and sound spectacular.”

Cllr Cyril Weber, chair of Cumbria County Council’s local committee for Carlisle, added: “The City of Lights project is a fantastic opportunity to showcase and celebrate our city, and a great example of the county and city council working together in partnership.

“I’m delighted that this is now a regular event which the whole community can take part in and enjoy.”
