PAUL SIMPSON'S Carlisle United put five past Scott Lindsey's struggling Crawley Town.

Joel Senior, Omari Patrick, Owen Moxon, Morgan Feeney and Jon Mellish all got in on the act at Broadfield Stadium as Carlisle moved into second place in the League Two table.

Using WhoScored.com, we took a look at how the Blues gave their promotion push an injection of momentum.

Statistically, this game was a showcase of Carlisle at their clinical best.

At face value, the 23rd placed hosts looked to have had some degree of control in the game, with the Red Devils having 66 per cent possession, with a much higher passing accuracy of 67 per cent compared to the Blues' 52 per cent.

Lindsey's side also edged Carlisle when it came to aerial duels and tackles.

However, these stats do not paint the full picture of what was a comfortable afternoon in West Sussex for the Blues.

Despite having only 33 per cent of the ball, Simmo's side had 20 shots to the host's 14, with nine of these being on target and another five being blocked by last-ditch Crawley defending.

Carlisle were also efficient with the ball, playing 14 key passes from their period of possession compared to the Red Devils' nine.

The Blues also had nine corners, a welcome site for the 504 travelling Cumbrians who have seen their side have successes from these set-pieces all season.

The goals scored by Carlisle were eclectic, with forwards, midfielders and defenders getting on the act, a real show of the confidence running through this promotion chasing team.
