THE team behind a Lake District slate mine has warned drivers to keep their 'eyes on the road' - after a driver found themselves in a stream while travelling down a Lake District pass.

Honister Slate Mine, near Keswick, issued a friendly reminder to people travelling on the Lakes roads following the incident.

In a slightly tongue-in-cheek statement, the mine yesterday reminded those driving down the Honister Pass to keep focused on the roads.

In a post on social media, Honister Slate Mine said: "Just a friendly reminder folks, if you're driving along Honister Pass, you should probably keep your eyes on the road instead of gawking at the stunning scenery.

"Or perhaps a Herdy was responsible? If so, ewe should keep your eyes peeled for our woolly friends because they are far too cute to be speed bumps.

"Drive safe!"
