Carlisle’s three-night City of Lights event attracted around 4,000 visitors and has been hailed a ‘resounding success’.
The Carlisle City Council event featured lighting of the city’s key historic landmarks and a spectacular sound and light experience at key landmark buildings.
It was held over three nights between Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 February. Tickets provided access to all the venues on the same night.
This year’s Carlisle City of Lights was themed on ‘Science’ and featured lighting of the city’s historic landmarks and a spectacular sound and light experience inside and outside Carlisle Cathedral, and also within the grounds of Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery and Carlisle Castle.
Carlisle City councillor Stephen Higgs, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Leisure said: “Carlisle City of Lights was a resounding success and I’d like to thank all those in involved in making it happen.
"It has been part of our events programme since 2020 and we have worked hard to make this event bigger and better featuring Carlisle Cathedral, Tullie House and Carlisle Castle. It was the last large scale event organised by Carlisle City Council and was a fitting end to our spectacular programme.”
With the support of Cumbria County Council, the event also saw buildings illuminated including the Citadel and Court Square.
City of Lights was organised by the Discover Carlisle team (Carlisle City Council), Luxmuralis, On Cue Productions and Just Beam It in association with Cumbria County Council. It was supported by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Councillor Cyril Weber, Chair of Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Carlisle, added: “The partnership between Discover Carlisle (Carlisle City Council), Luxmuralis, On Cue Productions, Just Beam and Cumbria County Council has produced a very successful event in Carlisle.
“My sincere thanks go out to everyone involved in making this event happen and also to everyone who attended."
A video of the event has also been produced on behalf of Discover Carlisle by Herd’s Media.
