A WELL-LOVED coffee chain has announced that it will be closing down.
Bruce and Luke's coffee shops, which have been popping up across North Cumbria for the past 10 years, announced the closure due to 'no longer being sustainable'.
The business famous for doughnuts, which has amassed over 10,000 Instagram followers, will see sites in Gretna and Keswick closedown.
The coffee chain saw its Coffee Genius in Carlisle close its doors last year, as well as pulling out of a partnership with a carwash in the city.
Foxes Cafe Lounge, on Carlisle's Abbey Street, which was in partnership with the chain, will continue to operate independently.
In a statement on social media, they said: "After careful consideration and analysis, we have decided to close our coffee shops as they were no longer sustainable.
"This is a tough decision to make, but we believe it is the best course of action.
"We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who supported our coffee shops and enjoyed our stores. We are deeply grateful for your support and loyalty. It was an honor to serve you, and we hope that you will continue to support us in our coffee roasting business.
"We also want to give a special shout-out to our incredible team who worked tirelessly to make our coffee shops a success.
"They did us proud, and we couldn't have done it without them. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication and want to wish all of them every success and happiness," they said.
Speaking with the News & Star, owner Luke Jackson said the business was getting 'very expensive' and was disappointed that it hasn't worked out.
"People are spending less, it just didn't work out and we've got to move on.
"We're young enough and energetic, so we just have to figure out what's next," Luke said.
The business, owned by Bruce Brown and Luke Jackson, has stated they will continue to create coffee through their roasting business, continuing to support retailers.
