For this Nostalgia edition we will be taking a look at what life was like in our area in the early 1980s.

Some four decades have passed since this era and things are dramatically different today than what they were then.

However, just like things are now, there was an awful lot happening in the world.

This was a time when Ronald Reagan was elected president of the United States, lady Diana Spencer and Charles the then prince of Wales were married and the cable network MTV (Music Television) was launched.

It was also a time when the FIFA World Cup was held in Spain and Italy won the title, Japan began selling the first CD players and the Swiss company "Swatch" introduced their watches and they became a fashion craze.

Back here in Cumbria there was also a great deal happening too. We've searched through our archives to find some truly amazing photos from this era, we hope that you enjoy this trip back in time just as much as we have.

Let us know if you feature in any of the photos or know the people that do, we'd love to hear from you.

We can see the colours of the KORBR being paraded at the cathedral, old colleagues enjoying a get together at Carr's 150th anniversary and the county bowls final at Silloth.

We can also see lunchtime at Kingmoor School in 1981, the class of 1981 at Stanwix School in Carlisle and work experience getting underway at James Rennis School.

The final photos show the 1982 line up of Annan's MacLean Pipe Band, judging in progress at Carlisle Cat Show and the unemployed centre in Carlisle opening.
