WEST Cumbria's expert paranormal group was left with a 'petrifying' experience after visiting a 'haunted' aviation museum.

S.P.I.R.I.T UK's Joanne Ellwood said she hadn't been to the Solway Aviation Museum for over 10 years, but the most recent trip is one she won't forget in a hurry.

"I didn't really expect much but it just went right off. I don't get scared ever but this time was different, my son who is 16 came with us, I ran I got that scared and left him behind. It was really surprising," she said.

10 people joined S.P.I.R.I.T UK for their evening investigating the paranormal, led by the museum's host Dougie Kerr.

After touring the site's workshop and old training centre it was all fairly quiet for the team but venturing into the traditional medical wing and accommodation block made up quite the 'amazing experience'.

"I'm standing at the bottom of a corridor with the lights off, I saw this shadow of a man at the bottom. Every time I looked directly on, he disappeared, and then when I looked again through the corner of my eye he had moved a few steps closer.

"I heard running right behind me at one point, I thought the two of the team behind me had started running but then they asked why I had started running - fair to say the rest of the team were petrified due to this being very out of character for me," she said.

Joanne, who says she's had an inclination into the paranormal ever since being in primary school, said the evening was topped off by the sound of sinister laughing and communication with the other side.

"We had two new people that joined us on the evening that had never done it before. One of the new members said it was one of the best experiences he's ever had - he said it was absolutely petrifying," she said.
