AN APPLICATION has been put forward for the erection of six timber glamping pods on the outskirts of Carlisle

The proposal seeks to place the holiday accommodation for visitors in Grinsdale, on the banks of the River Eden next to the former St. Kentigern’s Church.

The change of use application seeks to turn from its previous agricultural purpose.

The application was submitted to Carlisle City Council on March 15, put forward by Mr O'Neil.

The design and access statement reads: "Being so well sited, the proposed glamping site will offer quality accomodation to aid in the demand of tourists which is only thought to rise over the next few years, especially with the popularity of Hadrian's Wall route.

"The proposal will also aim to positively contribute to the creation and enhancement of new areas of green infrastructure. New indigenous shrubbery is proposed around the pods and pathways to help shield the pods from the surrounding view, in turn, helping the biodiversity within the site."

The pods will be manufactured offsite and be delivered prefabricated, in order to minimise construction on the land.

The plans hope to create one employment role, whilst increase business for taxi services, shops and nearby pubs and restaurants.

The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Carlisle City Council for approval.

Councillors on the planning panel will take comments of support or objection into account when giving a verdict.
