CARLISLE United played out a goalless draw with promotion rivals Stevenage at Brunton Park last weekend.

This result against Steve Evans' Boro ended Carlisle's run of consecutive wins but did see the Blue go five matches unbeaten.

However, the stalemate also meant that Carlisle dropped out of the automatic promotion places ahead of their Tuesday night clash with Mark Hughes' Bradford City.

Using WhoScored.com, we took a look at how the stats reflect on this goalless draw.

On paper, there is little to separate the two promotion contenders. The Blues edged possession with 52.7 per cent and had a 53 per cent passing accuracy to Stevenage's 46 per cent.

Both sides also managed an equal amount of shots, with nine a piece.

In addition, the Blues and the Boro both completed five dribbles and shared seven corners between them, with Carlisle having four of these.

Despite the two sides seeming evenly matched, these stats also paint a picture of offense v defence, with Carl Piergianni picked out as Stevenage's star performer.

The Boro defender lead his side's defensive effort, winning 11 aerial duels, whilst left-back Max Clark chipped in with 5 successful tackles, however, Steve Evan's side were wasteful in front of goal, with eight of their nine shots being off target.

For the Blues, it was Owen Moxon who carried the most threat and looked most likely to break down this stubborn defence.

Carlisle's imperious midfielder managed the only shot on target in the game and was responsible for five of the Blues' attempts on goal.

Mox also showed off his defensive capabilities with five successful tackles, only rivaled by the four won by Paul Huntington.
