A chippy in Cumbria has been ranked among the top 50 in the country.
The Fry Magazine Awards 2023’s results were published this month, and show that the Penrith Chippie Van has ranked among the highest in the UK.
The business is the only one in Cumbria to reach this rank, which one could argue makes it the best in the county, according to The Fry Magazine Awards.
Established in 1999, The Fry Magazine is a well-respected trade magazine for the fish and chips sector.
The awards, which have been running since 2012, work by businesses entering themselves, at which point some secret diners arrive to test the food and service.
Reports are created by these secret diners and collated by The Fry Magazine Awards’ organisers, who then place them on the list of entrants.
Owned by Dan Harding, the Penrith Chippie Van sees ongoing success in the fried foods awards scene.
He commented on the business’s success and how he got there: “We apply every year for this award, and then they send out between two and three mystery diners, who then fill out an audit each time.
“They (The Fry Magazine Awards) then add everything up and each business gets a score.
“Out of all of the shops and vans that entered, we were quite high.
“There are thousands of businesses that put themselves forwards for this award, and this is the third year running the van has made it, it is a hell of an achievement.”
