With a plethora of countryside and forest trails, Cumbria is filled with beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Here are five eateries to visit where you can enjoy a meal while taking in the views of nature.
- Lingholm Kitchen
Where: The Lingholm Estate, Portinscale, Keswick CA12 5TZ
Follow in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter with a bite to eat in the café on this gorgeous estate.
The Lingholm Kitchen Garden is said to be the inspiration for Mr McGregor’s Garden in The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
It’s on the western shore of Derwentwater and has a 100ft long glass wall that overlooks the gardens and beyond to Skiddaw.
- Kirkstile Inn
Where: Loweswater, Cockermouth CA13 0RU
Located at the stunning Loweswater, dining here is a treat for all the senses.
Dine on traditional, high-quality English fare, and take in all the sights and sounds of the Cumbrian countryside at the same time.
Cockermouth is near several beauty spots like this, such as Bassenthwaite.
- Horse and Farrier
Where: Horse and Farrier, Dacre, Penrith CA11 0HL
The word ‘picturesque’ doesn’t quite do the quiet Lake District village of Dacre justice, and there you will find this charming pub which has stood since the 18th century.
Now having changed significantly from its origins, patrons can expect traditional, homemade pub grub using locally-sourced ingredients, and can do so inside or in the pub garden, offering countryside views.
- The Mill Inn
Where: Mungrisdale, Penrith CA11 0XR
A proper inn, The Mill offers rooms, cask ale, homemade meals, and a respite from a walk in the countryside.
Located near Blencathra, The Mill Inn is surrounded by fabulous hills and walks.
It is also on the coast-to-coast cycle route, should you be in need of refreshment en route.
- The Hound Inn
Where: Parks Road, Arlecdon, Frizington CA26 3XE
A lovely old fashioned pub in West Cumbria, The Hound supplies its patrons with real ale, great food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
While reviews praise heavily the roast dinners, bear in mind they do not serve food at the beginning of the week.
Also good to know is this place is dog-friendly, so it’s a great destination if you’re out and about with your furry friend one sunny afternoon.
Sit in the beer garden and enjoy a drink or meal overlooking the county.
