A NUCLEAR worker told magistrates he will keep his job if he complies with regular drugs testing – after police searched his house and found cocaine.
Officers conducted a search of Johnathan Morgan’s property on July 8 last year after a warrant was issued, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said a tub of white powder was located in the 34-year-old’s home, which was tested and came back as positive for cocaine. There was a total of 48g of the drug.
The defendant was interviewed and said he had never been involved in the supply of Class A drugs.
He read out a prepared statement which said: “I accept the white powder recovered was mine. It’s ketamine. It’s for personal use only.”
Ms Fee said there were no drugs-related offences on Morgan’s record.
The defendant, of Elizabeth Terrace, Maryport, pleaded guilty to possessing a Class A drug – cocaine.
Morgan, who was not legally represented, said: “It was bought in lockdown. It was ketamine.
“I work at Sellafield and they drugs tested regularly. I got suspended then got to go back to work if I do unannounced drugs testing. I have been doing those tests and haven’t failed one.”
Morgan was fined £461 and must pay £85 costs and a £184 victim surcharge.
