A DRINK-DRIVER who was slurring his speech when he was pulled over by police has been banned from the roads for over three years.

Dominic Windle, 46, was stopped by officers on March 11, just before 8pm on Mossbay Road in Workington.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, told Workington Magistrates’ Court that Windle was slurring his speech and smelled of intoxicants.

A roadside breath test showed he had 67mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

At the police station, Windle gave a reading of 63mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Ms Fee said he had two relevant previous convictions.

Windle, of Victoria Road, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit.

Ashley Barnes, defending, said: “There are no aggravating features to the offence. No bad driving. The defendant appears to be capable of driving the vehicle.

“It’s a first occasion guilty plea.

“He’s a hard-working man who works as a civil engineer on the roads. He will be able to keep the employment.”

Windle was banned from driving for 38 months. He was fined £592 and must pay £85 costs and a £237 victim surcharge.
