Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford won his latest England Under-21 cap - watched by Gareth Southgate.
Trafford, from Greysouthen, started in the game against Croatia at Fulham's Craven Cottage.
The 20-year-old played the first half as Lee Carsley's side went down to a 2-1 defeat in the friendly.
England senior boss Southgate was in the crowd as the Under-21s were beaten in their last game before this summer's European Championships.
It was a second start in four days for Trafford, who appears to be in pole position to start for the Under-21s in the Euros.
After keeping a clean sheet in a 4-0 win over France on Saturday, the young Manchester City player - on his fourth Under-21 outing - was beaten by a superb free-kick from Martin Baturina.
Trafford was then replaced at the break as head coach Carsley gave 45 minutes to West Bromwich Albions' Joshua Griffiths.
He was beaten by a Dion Beljo penalty early in the second half.
A Morgan Gibbs-White spot-kick cut the deficit but England could not complete a comeback.
Trafford will now return to loan club Bolton Wanderers, where he is preparing for another big game this weekend.
He is set to play at Wembley for the Trotters in the Papa John's Trophy final against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday in front of more than 70,000 fans.
