An inspirational man from West Cumbria is set to take on a unique challenge to raise £30,000 for local charities.

Chris Youngs, from Cleator Moor, plans to run 30 miles a day for 30 consecutive days in April to raise money for Hospice at Home West Cumbria and Hearts of Gold West Cumbria.

The 30-mile route will start at in Mill Hill, go up to Rowrah Hall, down to Wood End and Mirehouse, through the town and around the harbour, along the wagon road and then out to Parton Shore and back to Mill Hill.

There will also be a rest stop at the 19-mile point where the ‘legendary’ Bill’s Brews will be positioned.

Chris said “To celebrate my 30th birthday this April, I’ll be running 30 miles a day for 30 days throughout the month of April. My target is to raise £30k, I aim to support Hospice at Home West Cumbria with a minimum of £25,000.

“Whilst also looking to provide a minimum of £5,000 for Hearts of Gold via offline donations, to assist them in becoming a charitable organisation and claim gift aid going forward.

“Different people will be running with me each day and there’ll be a few cyclists too. Anyone can join in and run as little or as much as they like”.

Chris will be taking the lead of fellow inspirational Cleator Moor runner, Gary McKee, who made national headlines when he raised £1 million for charity by running a marathon everyday for the whole of 2022.

Chris’ epic challenge will begin on Saturday, April 1 and continue throughout the month of April. Despite the challenge not starting yet, the current amount of money raised stands at almost £3,000.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria provides palliative and end of life care and support to patients and their families across West Cumbria. All services are provided free of charge to those who need them.
