For this Nostalgia edition we will be taking you back a full four decades to the year 1983.

Forty years later and thing are quite a bit different nowadays that they were back then, but just like today things were just as interesting as they are now.

This was a time when the first mobile phones, are introduced to the public by the Motorola Company, the world's most popular word processing programme is launched Microsoft Word and the children's show "Fraggle Rock" debuts on HBO as one of the premium cable network's first original programs.

It was also a time when the world's Population is estimated at 4.72 billion and China's Population reaches 1 billion, Richard Noble sets a new land speed record of 633.468 mph, driving Thrust 2 at the Black Rock Desert, Nevada and Breakfast TV starts in UK with the BBC Breakfast Time and TV-am.

There was also a great deal happening here in Cumbria too. Here at the News & Star we've searched through our archives to find some of the most interesting photos from this year. So why not take a trip down memory lane with us.

We can see three photos showing Moresby Primary School Victorian Day in 1983 with teachers and pupils alike dressed in the attire of the era.

Other photos show the centenary parade of the boys' brigade, Ireby YFC celebrating their 40th anniversary and District Council election candidate Tommy Johnstone outside the Civic Centre in Carlisle.

We can also see a snowy scene with a wintery farm track in Caldbeck, junior members of Thursby players in rehearsal for the Junior Play and the winner of the Robertson's Bread Winner competition presented with a loaf.
