A ROYAL navy recruit from Cleator Moor has been selected to play a vital role in the coronation of King Charles III.

Keane Green is one of a handful of recruits to be chosen from the Royal Navy’s Nelson Division to take part in the coronation parade when the King is crowned at Westminster Abbey next month.

Over the coming weeks, the 18-year-old will take part in rehearsals and training ahead of the historic occasion.

The former West Lakes Academy student signed up to the Royal Navy as a mechanical engineer on September 12 – the Monday after Her Majesty The Queen died and was one of the first recruits to swear allegiance to the King.

He completed his initial training at HMS Raleigh and is currently based in Portsmouth.

Throughout his basic training, Keane excelled in almost every subject. Keane’s dad, Dave Green, said he “absolutely loves it”.

At his passing out parade, Keane was made a PT Superior, which is given to individuals who demonstrate high levels of physical discipline and who meet ten assessment criteria.

Mr Green said he and his wife Karen, were “very proud” of what Keane had achieved already.

King Charles will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort, on Saturday, May 6.

The service will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.
