YOUNG gymnasts from a primary school in Whitehaven are ‘over the moon’ to have placed third in a county competition.
The Key Steps One gymnastics team from St Gregory & St Patrick’s Catholic Infant School took part in the Copeland competition at St Benedict’s Catholic High School in February.
The team worked ‘very hard’ to perfect their floor routine and vault and came first, which meant they qualified for a place in the Cumbria Finals.
With only one month to practice and a whole new body management routine to learn, the team quickly got to work.
Last week, pupils went to Penrith Leisure Centre to compete.
Teacher Tania Wilson said: “The team maintained their composure, despite the nerves, and did a fantastic job. We are so proud to say we came third.
“Third place in Cumbria is absolutely fantastic and we are over the moon with the outcome. The gymnasts should be so proud of themselves as we are of them.
“Watch out in a few years’ time - you might just see these faces in the Olympics!”
