IN this week's edition of nostalgia, we have looked back at memories of the Holy Trinity Church in Carlisle, including the demolition and rebuild.

The church replaced the original Holy Trinity Church which was built around 1828-30 on a triangular plot between Wigton Road and Newtown Road.

That building became unsound and was demolished in 1982.

We’ve looked back through our archives and found pictures of the original church, the demolition work and some of the many community events and services that have been held in the current Holy Trinity building in Wigton Road.

In 2022, there was a recommendation for Holy Trinity Church in Wigton Road, Carlisle, to close for worship which was approved by the Bishop of Carlisle. It was later confirmed the Church part had been formally closed for regular worship.

The building is currently under offer with Edwin Thompson, listed for £250,00. The listing states:

"The Parish Hall building comprise a predominantly two storey structure appearing to be of brick construction with a rough render finish. The roofs are substantial and covered in slate with flat roof sections. Windows have been replaced with UPVC double glazing."

"Internally, the majority of the accommodation is across ground and first floor, there is a small lower ground boiler room and some basic upper ground floor accommodation along the Stanhope Road elevation."

"The ground floor comprises open plan accommodation, with ancillary toilets and kitchen facilities mostly used by the Food Bank for storage and distribution. The upper floors are under used, comprising a large hall with stage and ancillary facilities much of which have been decommissioned where repairs have been required and in basic repair."
