IN this week's nostalgia, we have looked back at some photos of what Fusion nightclub in Workington looked like.
In it’s heyday, it was one of the best club in Cumbria. People would come from Carlisle and Barrow for a night out at Fusion.
Many people will remeber the club fondly, or have heard stories from parents about what club's they used to visit when they were younger.
The club first opened in 1999 and had some big names including Tidy Boys and Clubland in its early days. As business grew, Fusion regularly attracted big name acts such as Basement Jaxx, N-Trance and Sash!
However, June 2008, the club was closed resulting in 30 staff members losing their jobs. CanDu Entertainment Limited, who had run it for three years, went into administration. At the time, there was a big credit crunch, an imposed smoking ban, and workers mentioned that many other clubs in the area were getting licences to serve drinks later. This meant that Fusion was not the only late night club open until 3 in the morning.
Many people would have always had a little bit of hope that one day it would reopen. However, on May 31 2020 Emergency services were called at about after residents reported seeing a large cloud of black smoke in the area of the Fusion Nightclub on Ladies' Walk in Workington.
The former club was ruined after smoke and fire devoured it.
Do you recognise anyone? or have any memories or photos of the club yourself. Please share them!
