BORDER City Centurions have extended their perfect start to the National Flag Football League (NFFL) season.
The Carlisle-based club, which plays a non-contact version of American Football, have 'shattered the order of things' in their inaugural season on the national league stage.
Flag Football, which is billed as 'one of the fastest growing sports in both Europe and the Americas', could also be set for Olympic inclusion after the International Olympic Committee cleared it for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
"In 35 years of local American Football teams, we’ve never seen anything like this before," said Nick Weston, Centurions Head Coach
The Centurions top the British American Football Leagues (BAFL) NFFL Division 1 A (North and Highlands) after an unbeaten start to the season which has seen the local side win five consecutive matches.
After opening-day victories over sides from Lancashire and Chorley, The Cents recorded three more wins on Saturday, April 15.
In East Kilbride, Weston's side defeated Glasgow, Aberdeen, and Grangemouth to send them clear at the top of the table.
Weston said: "It goes to show, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
"Coming into this we’d been pegged as the rookie team, likely to be no more than whipping boys to the big clubs – but now they’re all having to seriously think again."
The Centurions now prepare to travel to Lancashire on Coronation weekend, to go head-to-head with second-placed Warrington and tenth-placed West Lancashire.
This flying start to the BAFL NFFL season for the Centurions is the latest stride in the club's development after being founded in 2022.
The club also has a junior team in development and a women's team starting up in June.
