WILLIAM Howard School are set to mark the coronation of King Charles III with a community-focused event.
The event will take place on Friday, May 5 at 1.30 pm, with the school inviting local residents to get involved with the royal festivities.
Speaking ahead of the event, William Howard's associate assistant headteacher and careers lead Tracey Hill spoke about how this event will round off a day full of royal-themed learning at the school.
She said: "To commemorate the historic occasion of the Coronation of King Charles II and the Queen Consort we have a day of events planned at WHS involving students, staff, and the local community.
"During tutor time all students will find out about the history of the Coronation. Year 8 students will take part in Royal Rounders in a tournament during their PE lesson time.
"At 10.30 Brampton Town Crier, Brian Pease will welcome all the students and staff onto the school astroturf pitch where there will be a ceremony to commemorate the Coronation.
"The Head Girl and Boy will do a reading and then the choir will sing 'God Save the King' and the Town Crier will finish the ceremony with three cheers for the King."
A host of local suppliers such as Colin Moore Meats, Dobbies and Brampton, and Longtown Foodbank have also got involved with the event will also feature a logo competition for the foodbank and the planting of a time capsule by the Mayor of Carlisle.
Mrs Hill said: "We wanted to celebrate this historic occasion with our wonderful local community.
"Some of our guests have links to the school as ex-students, some as former staff, and some as parents.
"We used to run tea parties for the community pre-covid and are delighted to re-open events to invite residents back into school to meet with us and each other.
"Community spirit is high in our local area we appreciate all the support over the years they have given to WHS and there is no bigger occasion to celebrate this bond than celebrating a Coronation together."
