CARLISLE United have confirmed that Jon Mellish will serve a three-match ban after their appeal against his sending-off was rejected.

Jon Mellish was given his marching orders by referee Seb Stockbridge in the 82nd minute after an altercation with Salford City's Elliot Watt last weekend.

This came after the Blues had been awarded a penalty, that subsequently was dispatched by Kristian Dennis.

However, this 85th-minute equaliser would be canceled out by Luke Bolton in the 88th minute as Neil Wood's Ammies inflicted a 3-2 defeat on Paul Simpson's side in their game of the season at Brunton Park.

In a statement this morning, the club said: "Carlisle United can confirm that the appeal against the red card shown to Jon Mellish in the Salford game on Saturday has been rejected by an FA Review Panel.

"The Cumbrians submitted video and written evidence to support the appeal but the panel decided that the dismissal handed out by referee Seb Stockbridge on Saturday was a correct decision.

"Mellish will now serve a three-match suspension, effective immediately."

Jon Mellish will now miss the Blues' final game of the season against Sutton United and the two legs of their potential playoff semi-finals.
