ST Bees school and Ravenglass Handmade Ice Cream have collaborated together to create a new ice cream flavour dedicated to the school.

The school wanted to team with a local business and found that the Ravenglass store was perfect due to their innovative flavours. They wanted to created a 'viral' flavour, that looked strange but tasted great and the shop were very receptive and embraced the challenge.

The school recognises they are dynamic and a different thinking school as it is the only independant school in the area. The school is also an international school, nationalities at the launch event included British, Ukrainian, Thai, German and Chinese. They chose to create a unique ice cream because it is an internationally loved food that everyone could embrace.

The first four flavours sampled were red bean paste and Biscoff cookie, hoisin and strawberry, black sesame and honey and Chinese five spiced caramel.  After the feedback from the student council, Sam and Andrew from Ravenglass Handmade Ice Cream went back to the drawing board, leading to the creation of black ginger and honeycomb.

Ceara Fisher, Director of Marketing and Admissions at the school said: "We are unbelivably proud of the children, they were very mature in the feedback meetings. They were articulating and expressed views in a diplomatic way."

Year 10 student, Amelia designed the lid of the ice cream box and the school wanted to emulate a flavour that represented the best of the school and the area. The ginger represents shows Cumbria and the honeycomb pays homage to the bees of the school.

The pupils at the launch event all tried the ice cream and said: "It’s really nice”, “It’s lovely” and “as a person who hates ginger it is really nice”

Sam and Andrew from Ravenglass Handmade Ice Cream said: “It was very exciting to get the proposition, we had all different kind of flavours and wanted to do a fusion challenge to try and get it to taste nice."

"We tried the seasame seed flavour but because of allergens we decided not to. We wanted to retain the colour with the black ginger but didn't want it to be too punchy. It sounds like a bizarre flavour but it is great."

Pots can be found in the Honesty Box and at Muncaster Castle as a limited edition flavour and 50p from every sale of a tub will go towards Great North Air Ambulance thanks to the generosity of Sam and Andrew.
