COUNCILLORS have approved plans for a new multi-million pound STACK Carlisle, which the applicants have said will be a new 'destination venue' attracting people to the city.
At a meeting held today, May 10 in the Civic Centre, Carlisle councillors on the Cumberland Council planning committe gave the green light for the new venue.
The new multi-milliom pound leisure venue will see the creation of a container village made up of around 50 shipping containers with a retractable glass roof which will house five bars, 10 street food outlets, a central plaza with a balcony and a stage area for live music - and the applicants say it will create around 160 jobs, on the former Lowther Street car park.
Councillor John Mallinson moved the recommendation for the new venue to be approved.
He said: "Most things we do in life tends to annoy someone else, but I think its a question balance.
"I think this is a great thing, there is a potential to really revitalise the area."
