A PLANNING application has been submitted to change the use of a former Barclays bank in Carlisle to a tyre centre.
The application proposal on the northeastern side of Montgomery Way, at Rosehill Industrial Estate, was lodged with Cumberland Council on May 5.
As part of the proposal, a roller shutter doorway is to be formed in the gable end; internal walls are to be demolished to open up the floor space to create fitting bays; the siting of a storage container; and provision of parking spaces involving the removal of six cherry trees.
The proposal states it will employ the equivalent of 10 full-time employees.
The application was submitted by Harraby Green Associates on behalf of GT Tyres.
The former Rosehill Barclays bank closed its doors in November 2021.
Speaking at the time, a Barclays spokesperson said: "Customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking.
"As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.
"This fall in branch visits is reflected at our Carlisle Rosehill branch and we also know that nearly four fifths (78 per cent) of our customers at the branch are using different ways to bank.
"We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required," they said.
