The Cumberland Liberal Democrats are set to decide on their Parliamentary candidate for Carlisle at a meeting next week.
At a meeting of their executive committee on Wednesday, May 17 they are set to announce their candidate to take on the incumbent Conservative MP, John Stevenson and Labour candidate, Julie Minns in the next general election which must be held before January 2025.
Liberal Democrats follow a "careful procedure" to ensure that only the correct members for the new Carlisle boundary are included in the selection vote.

To become a Liberal Democrat cadidate a person must meet be a long standing Member of the party and have gained a pass mark in the Liberal Democrat written examination for candidates for Members of Parliament in the last 5 years
The Liberal Democrats are currently the thrid largest party at the new Cumberland authority with 5 councillors but has a majority at Westmorland and Furness council.
Their cadidate at the last general election in 2019 received 6.6 per cent of the vote.
