AN advice and support session will be hosted in Carlisle for those living with or caring for someone living with dementia.

As part of National Dementia Action Week, the Carlisle Dementia Action Alliance is partnering with Age UK (Carlisle & Eden) and the team behind Connecting Communities in Carlisle to host a pop-up at 53 Scotch Street, on May 16, between 10am and 4pm.

As well as advice and support, the group will be happy to offer some small group Dementia Friends sessions in the afternoon at 1pm and again at 2.30pm.

A Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it's like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action.

Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

Local Singing for the Brain group will also be at the Morrisons store on Scotland Road on May 18 in the afternoon.

Kevin Walsh, chairman of the Dementia Action Alliance, said: "Of course, not everyone who is living with Dementia feels that they want a formal diagnosis, it can be a scary issue to discuss and come to terms with.

"Our Action Alliance works alongside organisations such as the Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK and others to support those living with Dementia, their families, and carers both pre and post diagnosis.”

“We know that in the coming years many more people will be diagnosed with Dementia.

"Alliance members are keen to make sure that organisations and individuals are as prepared as they can be," they said.
