A SCHOOL headteacher has said she is ‘immensely proud’ after her school received ‘good’ ratings in both its Ofsted and SIAMS inspections.

Rosley Church of England School in Wigton was visited by Ofsted just a matter of weeks after appointing new headteacher, Joanne Tinniswood, following the sad departure of the previous head due to ill health.

Joanne became the permanent headteacher of Rosley School in March 2023 after teaching at the school since 2004.

Schools are inspected by Ofsted approximately once every four years whilst Church of England schools have SIAMS inspections every eight years.

Headteacher, Joanne Tinniswood said that it was ‘lovely’ to receive the reports after a ‘tricky’ year.

“We're immensely proud because our school is a good school,” said Joanne.

“It has been a good school for a very long time, but I think with some of the challenges we've faced, in what was quite a tricky last year, it's lovely to come out the other end of that so positively.

“Our pupils were just fantastic. Both inspections spoke about the maturity of them and how they are a credit to our school.

“Our school community shone through in both inspections. The strength of the support from parents and the local community just shows how closely knit we are.

“For me there’s a massive sense of pride and real happiness at how everybody pulled together over the last year and a half. It's just been immense.”

Joanne also said the previous head was ‘proud’ of the direction the school has gone in her absence.

The Ofsted report praised all aspects of school life including the leadership team, pupils and teachers.

The report said: “Pupils arrive happily to school each morning and staff greet them warmly.

“Pupils explained that they feel an important part of the school community.

“Leaders have designed a rich and balanced curriculum that typically meets pupils’ learning needs."

The school have also been involved in a community fundraising project which has seen them raise £10,000 to completely redevelop the outside area thanks to the ‘dedication’ of parents, grandparents and locals.

An official opening of the newly developed outside area will take place in the coming months.
