PROSECUTORS say that the cannabis farm discovered in Carlisle contained a crop with an estimated value of £4.5m.
The valuation was confirmed as the second man who is accused of being involved in the illegal cannabis growing operation at Lancaster Street in Carlisle last week appeared before the city’s Rickergate court.
Florian Daci, 24, who was walking with the aid of crutches, appeared via a video link. The court clerk said he faced a single charge – the illegal production of cannabis.
This was said to have happened on May 10.
Represented by defence lawyer Jeff Smith, the defendant – speaking through an interpreter – said that he was not yet ready to enter a plea to the allegation.
Prosecutor George Shelley outlined the crown’s case, saying that police believe there were more than 200kilos the drug involved. Daci was one of three people arrested, the court heard.
Magistrates ruled that the defendant’s case should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on June 12.
On May 12, Edmond Paula, 28, also of no fixed abode, was charged with possessing the class B drug with intent to supply and cannabis production. He too was remanded in custody.
The third suspect remains in hospital after he sustained serious injuries on the day of his arrest. During the 10-minute hearing, Daci spoke only to confirm his details and confirm that he was not ready to plead to the allegation that he is facing.
