A MOTORIST unfit through drugs who was driving at excess speed has been banned from the roads for a year.
Carly Mann, 37, was driving a Vauxhall Astra on the A597 in Workington, in the early hours of November 15 when she was stopped by police due to driving over the speed limit.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said police could smell cannabis while speaking to Mann.
A drugs wipe was positive and the defendant was taken to the police station. A blood sample showed she was over the prescribed limit for drugs.
Ms Fee said Mann had a previous conviction for driving with excess alcohol in 2009.
Mann, of High Road, Whitehaven, pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.
John Cooper, defending, said: “It’s 13 years since there was a similar offence.
“It was late at night. She had a small amount of cannabis earlier.
“It’s a guilty plea at the first opportunity.”
Magistrates banned Mann from driving for 12 months. She was fined £120 and must pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
