A SHOPLIFTER was found walking with a trolley full of goods he had stolen from a supermarket.
Sam Irving, 28, entered Tesco in Workington on April 24 and filled a trolley with items. He then left the store, making no attempt to pay, Workington Magistrates’ Court heard.
Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant was stopped pushing the trolley on a path in Northside. Some of the items were recoverable.
During interview, Irving said he had taken items to eat, wash his clothes and feed his dog.
The total value of the items stolen was £120.40.
MORE FROM COURT: Two men in court charged with manslaughter
Irving, of Senhouse Street, Siddick, Workington, pleaded guilty to theft from a shop.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, said: “I’m guilty. I’m just struggling at the moment.”
He was fined £40 and must pay £76 in compensation to Tesco.
No order was made for costs or a victim surcharge, due to the defendant’s limited means.
