ASHLEE Graham and Brent Hammell decided to keep their wedding simple with close friends and family... but splashed out on two honeymoons - one with their sons in the UK and one in Cyprus.

Nissan worker Ashlee, 34 from Carlisle, met plumbing and heating engineer Brent, 31, from Whitehaven, when they were both working at a car dealership together.

News and Star:

"At first we were just friends but then Brent left the dealership," Ashlee recalls.

"The following year (2019) we got in touch and had a conversation that lasted one week.

"We then decided to meet up after that and stayed up until 2am, talking about our families and life.

"The following day Brent messaged and said 'I will marry you one day'.

"From there we met regularly and slowly, but practically knew straight away we were going to marry.

"Finally in May 2021, Brent asked to marry me on a walk in the Lakes called Surprise View."

With wedding plans on their mind, Ashlee and Brent were on a mission to find the perfect venue.

News and Star:

Little did they know, it was a place they had already been to.

"We had previously eaten at Hidden River Barns in Carlisle.

"Our friends Chris and Malcom had also previously mentioned they had designed the plans for the barn which was where the wedding ceremony would be," Ashlee explains.

"So we asked Gill, who was a close friend of Brent's, and worked as a wedding coordinator there, to show us around.

"We knew from then this was the perfect venue for us. It also helped that our two mothers said that straight away too and that they loved it. So it was booked."

News and Star:

The pair got married on May 18 and were surrounded by their closest friends and family, including Ashlee's eight year old son and the couple's one year old son Roux.

"I walked down the aisle in a beautiful dress which the design was called 'Made with Love' from Marrime in Jesmond and my brother Tyler gave me away alongside my eldest son.News and Star:

"Our theme for wedding was rustic, so we stuck to white and greenery, as we wanted it to be simple and classic.

"My maid of honour was my friend Tamar Bunting, who is a nurse at Carlisle hospital.

"After the wedding ceremony, all our guests enjoyed choosing different options from our three course menu."

The venue served different options of either a wild mushroom brushetta or chargrilled chicken and mozzerella arancini wild aioli, followed by a main of either beer battered cod with minted peas and chunky chips or flame-grilled wagu steak then a choice of several desserts.

News and Star:

After the meal, the pair took to the dance floor for their first dance which was Luther Van Dross's Never Too Much.

Ashlee adds: "We had music all throughout the day.

"For our night time entertainment we had Dan Brunskill who was our DJ and saxophonist on the evening and through the day we had Cory Spedding and Stuart Sydney."

Straight after the wedding the pair took their sons to Center Parcs for three days and are looking forward to flying out to Cyprus later in the year.
