A STRETCH of the A66 will partially re-open after a vehicle fire caused its closure in both directions.
Police warned drivers earlier this morning to avoid the A66 east of Kirkby Thore after a vehicle fire has closed the road in both directions.
But at around 10.50am a police spokesman said: "One lane will reopen to ease congestion.
"The vehicle will still need recovered and the road checked so there may be a further full closure when needed.
"No injuries to anyone involved. Thanks for your patience."
The A66 has been closed throughout this morning in both directions with police and fire services on scene.
Earlier today, a spokesman said: "There is no diversion route for HGVs along the route due to weight restrictions on smaller roads."
The police have issued advice to drivers to plan ahead and avoid the area.
