CARLISLE's Green Room has announced its plans to reopen its Theatre Downstairs after a two and half year hiatus.

The downstairs, at West Walls Theatre, reopens in style as the stage will become home to performances of Brian Friel's Afterplay from Thursday, June 15 to June 18.

The play is a gem from the master Irish dramatist, who's best known for Dancing at Lughnasa, which is concurrently being revived at the National Theatre.

The play depicts the reunion of two Chekhov characters who meet at a Moscow café two decades later.

The audience requires no knowledge of the preceding plays as Sonya and Andrey's back stories are ingeniously fed into the audience.

The performance is a poignant yet hilarious study of shattered dreams and the stoic adoption of setbacks in life.

Sarah Waters and Jason Munn will portray the play's two roles, while the director is Nigel Banks.

Tickets cost £6 and can be reserved online at carlislegreenroom.uk/tickets.

Due to limited seating capacity, early booking is advisable.

The theatre is also hosting a series of monthly workshops with an experienced actor, director and drama teacher at the helm - Nigel Banks.
