Daina Mason, affectionately known as 'MND Di' in her local community, has chronicled her journey with Motor Neurone Disease in her new book.

Despite being diagnosed with the life-altering illness in 2018, Daina, from Stanwix, turned to cutting-edge eye gaze technology to document her daily life with MND.

Her book includes stories from her diagnosis to her current experiences.

"It was emotional remembering the journey, and the reason I wanted to do it was because there was nothing like it when I wanted to read about it when I was diagnosed.

"I know Doddie Weir wrote one but when I read it, it was more about rugby than MND, and anything that goes towards research is a bonus," Daina said.

Daina has also made over 100 appearances on BBC Radio Cumbria to promote the inspiring read, earning her a finalist spot in the Fundraiser category for the BBC Radio Cumbria 'Make A Difference' awards 2023.

Pledging her book's royalties to MND research, Daina's courage and perseverance in the face of adversity are to be applauded.

On social media, Carlisle's Bookends said: "Today we were lucky enough to meet the amazing Daina Mason who popped over to our shop for a photo with her book, an incredible and insightful memoir covering living with Motor Neurone Disease.

"Daina was diagnosed with MND in July 2018, and this moving account of her bravery and courage in the face of such a debilitating disease is a real inspiration."

The book is available from Amazon, Bookends Carlisle, and coming soon to Carlisle Library.
