RESIDENTS and visitors of the Lake District are being warned to be cautious when using disposable barbecues, after a number of incidents around the national park in recent weeks.

Fire crews from Keswick were called out to a fell side after two disposable bbqs caused a patch of land to set fire over the weekend.

Crews are worried that more incidents like this may occur in the next few weeks due to hotter weather and increased visitors in the area.

The incident on the fellside involved teams from Keswick, Appleby and Penrith fire and rescue teams.

In a statement, Keswick Fire Station said: "Unfortunately this was the result of two disposable BBQs on the fell side.

"With the hot weather and the large number of visitors we are expecting over the coming weeks, we respectfully ask everyone to be aware of the potential dangers and act responsibly."

Fire crews were also called throughout last week to reports of a number of incidents involving disposable bbq's and camp fires in Keswick.
