CUMBRIA is facing a growing threat as discarded BBQs have ignited multiple wildfires in recent weeks, police have warned.

Allerdale Police said the Keswick Community Team has attended several similar incidents since the beginning of the hot weather.

"Keswick Community Team are aware that since the start of the good weather our colleagues from the Keswick Wildfires Team have attended several wildfires which have been caused by discarded BBQ’s.

"Please be aware that being reckless of the disposing of your BBQ which then causes damage may lead to a Criminal investigation of Arson.

"We respectfully ask everyone to be aware of the potential dangers and act responsibly," they said.

A similar warning was issued by fire crews on June 5.

In a statement on social media, the Lake District National Park Authority said: "Please don't have BBQs or camp fires in the Lake District, especially during this dry warm weather. Please be Lake District Kind."
