AN organisation which has been in Workington for over 100 years has celebrated recieving a new standard over the weekend.
Workington Royal British Legion Women's Section celebrated receiving the new standard on Sunday, June 4.
A special 'laying up' service of the old standard was held in St John's Church led by Rev Frankie Ward, which included the dedication of the new one.
Members of the women's section attended the service alongside King Charles's representative, the deputy Lord Lieutenant Sir Tony Cunningham, and Workington Town Mayor and the Mayor of Wigton. County members from the Royal British Legion were also there.
Workington Royal British Legion and the Women's Section have now been in the town for 100 years, a lot has changed since its formation.
It looks after families whose men were at war, helping with the welfare to families who needed support.
A spokesman for the women's section said: "It could of been a dozen eggs, or a bag of home grown vegetables or a chat over a cup of tea, we still support today with Christmas shoe boxes that will be sent overseas from donations and visits to care homes.
"The women's section meet on the second Thursday of the month at 7pm in the Royal British Legion, new members are always welcome they continue to support our serving personnel, veterans fund raise to support this as well as the Poppy Appeal and play a valuable part in Armed Forces Day."
