CARLISLE United has said that it will 'help wherever we can' after Cumbria Police confirmed that a second boy had passed away following an incident in the River Eden.

Police confirmed that the second boy - a 14-year-old who has not yet been officially named - sadly passed away in the early hours of Thursday, June 15 after the incident where a group of teenagers got into difficulty in the River Eden in Carlisle on Friday, May 26.

The boy had been airlifted to hospital following the incident.

Carlisle United fans have already begun discussing different ways to pay tribute to the boy after they had taken part in a minute of applause during the 15th minute of the League Two playoff final at Wembley.

This applause was a tribute to 15-year-old Lewis Michael Kirkpatrick, the first boy who was found to have tragically passed away following a multi-agency search after the incident.

In a statement, Carlisle United committed to helping 'wherever we can' following the tragedy and affirmed its plans to remember the young men in their first home game of the 2023/24 season.

They said: "It’s tragic news, and brings sadness to the Cumbrian community as a whole to learn of the loss of such young lives.

"The first home game of every season brings with it our In Memoriam honour roll call, and both young men will feature as part of that as we remember those loved ones who are no longer with us.

"We have seen in the past, most recently at Wembley, that our supporters also pay their own poignant tributes and respects in their own way.

"As a club we are always keen to help wherever we can and, as ever, our thoughts are with the families and loved ones at this sad time.
