A PRIMARY school in Cumbria has opened a 'fantastic' new adventure playground for pupils.

Hayton Church of England primary school in Hayton, near Brampton was keen to give its students new facilities to play on, and they have now officially opened their adventure playground.

The playground features an adventure trail with balancing beams, rope challenges and stepping stones, culminating in a large spider-web climbing frame which is proving extremely popular with the students.

After the project was announced in December 2022, the school worked with children, the PTA and governors to put the adventure playground together, with 'significant' fundraising coming from the PTA.

Headteacher Sarah Threlkeld-Brown said: "The children are really excited about it. I’ve only been head since September and I asked the children what they would like to improve in the school.

"One of the things was to have more things to play on outside.

"Their wish is my command. The school, the children, the PTA, and the governors worked together to make it happen.

"Now it has, and it’s fantastic."

Pupils haven't been able to stay away from the new climbing frame in particular, and Mrs. Threlkeld-Brown was extremely grateful to the PTA for its role in creating a new positive environment for the children to enjoy.

She said: “The school and the children say a massive thank you to the PTA for their ongoing fundraising and for making our school a wonderful place to be.

"The adventure playground is having such a wonderful and positive impact on the children’s health and education."

An official opening is planned in the near future.
