THE family of John McKenna paid tribute to their ‘much-loved son, brother, grandson and friend,’ after he tragically died in Ibiza.

John, 22, sadly passed away after a fall from his hotel balcony in Ibiza after going on holiday with friends last week.

In a statement, John’s family have thanked the public for their ‘overwhelming support’ and the warmth they have received from his friends.

The statement says: “The McKenna family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and the messages they have received since the loss of John on Friday.

“John was a much-loved son, brother, grandson and friend to so many.

“We will all miss his bright spark, wonderful smile and the ability to light up every room.

“The family thank all his friends for the warmth they have shown them, we know this will help us deal with the loss of John and heal some of our grief over the years to come.

“Thank you also to the British and Spanish consulate who are guiding us through and the press for their sensitivity."

Since John’s tragic death, tributes have been paid by John’s numerous friends who said they were ‘devasted’, ‘heart-broken’ and ‘gutted’.

John was a well-loved player at Sunday League side, Scotby FC, who said that they have “lost a legend, a brilliant player but an even better person, never forgotten but loved always.”

The circumstances surrounding the fall have not yet been clarified by officials.

A Civil Guard spokesman said on Friday: “A 22-year-old British man has died this morning after plunging from the third floor of a hotel in San Antonio.

“The incident is still being investigated.”

A Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who died in Ibiza and are in contact with the local authorities."
