A SHOPLIFTER who stole 22 cans of Lynx deodorant was “running low on money”.

Mark Timney, 52, entered Poundland in Whitehaven just before 5pm on May 12, Workington Magistrates’ Court was told.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting, said the defendant spoke to a member of staff, before going over to a display of Lynx deodorant and placing 22 cans into a bag he was carrying.

He then left the store, making no attempt to pay. The incident was caught on CCTV and Timney was identified by police.

During interview, Timeny said he was “running low on money”. He confirmed he stole around 22 cans and went into the store with the intention to steal.
