Cumberland Council will light up numerous buildings and landmarks in blue to join in celebrations of the NHS’ 75th anniversary.

The buildings that will be lit will be in the Court Square, Citadels, and Market Cross areas Carlisle.

The Civic Centre is also illuminating some of the windows, to form a blue heart for the NHS’s celebration, with all lightings lasting from July 3 to 9.

Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “I am delighted we can illuminate these buildings in blue, to represent the NHS and support their 75th anniversary.

“This initiative is a small gesture of appreciation for the tireless work that the NHS staff does every day to care for people. As a council, we recognise the huge impact that the NHS has on our community, and we hope that these lights will serve as a reminder of the incredible efforts of the NHS over the years.”.

Councillor Martin Harris Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for adults and community health, said: “The council acknowledges and appreciates the enormous contribution made by the NHS to our community.

“The NHS has been a pillar of strength, providing quality healthcare services to our residents. As a retired doctor with thirty-four years’ service at the front line, I appreciate just how important the NHS is.”

“We hope that these lights will serve as a source of inspiration to the community and encourage us to support the NHS in every possible way.”
