A JUSTGIVING page set up in the memory of 'much-loved' Carlisle man John McKenna has raised nearly £14,000 for charity.
The fundraising page was set up by the family of the 22-year-old who tragically passed away while he was on holiday in Ibiza.
At the time of writing, the page had 512 supporters and had raised £13,817, all supporting the JackTheLad Foundation.
This foundation helps relieve the financial burden on the families of those aged 16-30 who have sadly passed away whilst overseas by assisting with the repatriation of the young person.
They said: "We as John's family and friends are overwhelmed and extremely thankful for the support we have received in the past few days.
"Our next task is to bring our big man home, to contribute to that effort we would kindly ask for a charitable donation to JackTheLad Foundation."
This comes after John's family had sincerely thanked the local community for all of their support following the tragedy.
In a statement, they said: "The McKenna family would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and the messages they have received since the loss of John on Friday.
"John was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, and friend to so many.
"We will all miss his bright spark, wonderful smile, and ability to light up every room.
"The family thank all his friends for the warmth they have shown them, we know this will help us deal with the loss of John and heal some of our grief over the years to come.
The JustGiving page that has been set up in John's memory also has the aim of raising money to create a permanent memorial at Scotby Pavilion.
They said: "Anything you are willing to give will be a massive help in not only bringing John home but also help create something more permanent up at the Scotby Pavilion, where we can all be reminded of the support and love everyone gave in this heartbreaking situation."
