WE asked readers for their thoughts on the biggest problems councillors need to tackle in Carlisle.

Readers mentioned roads and the traffic light system along with bringing more shops into the city centre.

Others said pavements need to be tidied up as they are 'overrun' with weeds.

The Facebook page the singing taxi driver commented: "Roads and traffic lights. The city is gridlocked."

Pauline Burke replied and said: "Not kidding, cars are far too big 4x4s all over the place they're a menace."

The singing taxi driver stated: "They clog up the roads. Even worse when it's school runs. They are everywhere."

Ian Hebson said: "Subsidies for anyone wanting to open a coffee shop."

Etta David Cosgrove said: "Definitely weeds. The city looks awful with overgrown weeds all over, totally unnecessary."

William Townsley said: "Not making English Street and Devonshire Street a pedestrian zone, the town centre is big and nice enough, why waste more money."

Carolann Campbell said more should be spent 'on regenerating the town centre with shops, not cafes. Do something about the state of our streets which are terrible and all of the above'.

Pauline Burke said: "Sort town centre and market," while Ross Hunter said: "City is overrun with weeds and seagulls the place is a mess and both need to be addressed," which David Osborne agreed with.

David Osborne said there is a need to 'give proper homeless housing'.
